MEMS (Multi-Effect Multi-Stage) has successfully treated many types of water at the UTEP Solar Pond and uses hot brine from bottom of the pond to flash all four stages that it contains.

Herb Hein, Huanmin Lu, Dean Brown. Thank You for visiting our page and keep watching for up dates. Daily operations and maintenance are handled by the solar pond's three-man staff. Coordinator Herb Hein, Research Specialist Huanmin Lu, and Maintenance Technician Dean Brown keep the pond functioning regardless of weather conditions or the season of the year. Their routine includes monitoring of the solar pond's temperature, pH levels, salinity, and turbidity. Beyond routine operations, they have had many opportunities to design and test instruments and equipment to promote the various applications both locally and elsewhere in Texas. Over the years they have also had their share of troubleshooting, as well. The El Paso Solar Pond's continuing success can in large part be attributed to Herb, Lu and Dean's unfailing perseverance, ingenuity, and expertise.
